Ted Lasso must make a significant choice. In the eleventh episode of the third season of “Ted Lasso,” which debuted on Apple TV+ on May 24th, Ted (Jason Sudeikis) is confronted by his mother, Dottie (Becky Ann Baker), about how his son, Henry (Gus Turner), misses him in Kansas.
“I know,” says Ted. “I miss him, too.” He begins to weep and struggles to find words. “Sometimes I’m afraid to get too close to that little boy because I know he’s going to leave,” she said. His mother tells him, “That’s the problem with being a parent. Occasionally you lose and occasionally you win, but most of the time you tie.”
Ted falls unconscious on the sofa that night, and when he awakens the following morning, Dottie has departed for the United States. As usual, Ted walks to work and discovers Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) in his office. She reminds him that this is the time of year when she typically has a “truth bomb” to drop on him, but she doesn’t have one this time.
“That’s fine,” Ted says. “I’ve got one.” The episode concludes, leading to the conclusion. Nonetheless, if you are unsure of what Ted’s “truth bomb” is, the answer will be revealed during the closing credits.
Will Ted Lasso Return to America?
A rendition of “Home” from the musical “The Wiz” plays over the end credits of the episode. The new rendition is performed by Brandi Carlile. The 1974 musical “The Wiz” is a retelling of “The Wizard of Oz” with an all-Black cast. Dorothy sings “Home,” which became a popular single for Stephanie Mills, just before she clips her heels and returns to Kansas.
Fans of “Ted Lasso” will recall that Ted is also from Kansas. He is Dorothy, shortly before he returns home permanently. (We’ll let you determine which other “Wizard of Oz” characters the remaining “Ted Lasso” characters correspond to.) Even though the audience doesn’t hear Ted say he’s going home, the song choice at the conclusion makes the message crystal clear.
Sudeikis has all but verified that this is the last season of “Ted Lasso,” making the season’s 12th episode the series finale. In light of Ted’s departure, we’ll have to wait and see what transpires to AFC Richmond in the final episode.
The season three finale of “Ted Lasso” will debut on Apple TV+ on May 31.
