Drew Barrymore, now an adult actress and eponymous talk show presenter, admitted to ABC Audio that she was a bingo player during her “wild child” years, a fact that few people are aware of.
“When I was a teenager, I would engage with all of my pals. We used to frequent this West Hollywood senior center,” she recalls with a smile.
“There was a large group of us, and it was essentially a celebration for us. And we’d be there around 8 or 9 [p.m.] with all of our blotters, and we’d bring our tray of blotters — that’s probably not what they’re called — but they’re like gigantic ink stamps in the form of bottle pens. So, bingo is not novel to me,” she concludes with a chuckle.
“We would play bingo and then party all night.”
Drew, a busy mother of two, can now relive her adolescent years, or at least the earlier years, with the mobile game Bingo Blitz, which she says reflects a common motif in the products she endorses: they are free. “I’m both the Pluto [TV] girl and the Bingo Blitz girl,” she boasts.
She continues, “I advocated for Time magazine to remove their paywall. I wish others would follow suit. And this is an era in which we must find a means to monetize things in a different manner, without charging users. How can we collaborate in a cost-free manner that provides us with information, entertainment, and gaming?
She adds, “These are things that mean a great deal to me, and I want to be involved with them.”
