When implementing an ISO management system, there are eight reasons to need an ISO consultant.
A professional ISO consultant is used by many organizations to assist in the development, implementation, and upkeep of their management systems. Occasionally, they designate someone right away to assist with each stage of the process. Organizations occasionally get started—possibly even finishing their Stage 1 audit—only to discover they’re in over their heads!

1. They’ll most likely do it more skillfully than you.
I intend no offense. However, a seasoned consultant will have assisted other organizations similar to yours and will have done this on numerous occasions in the past. It’s unlikely that you have ever implemented a system of this kind before; if you have, you may have once or twice in your previous employment. You’ll have access to all of that experience and knowledge if you work with a consultant.
2. You are not required to become an expert on the standard.
Senior management in the organization must, of course, assume responsibility and demonstrate leadership when using a cert better ISO management system, so you do need to be familiar with the fundamentals. You can’t just give an outside consultant complete control over everything. However, you won’t have to devote days to reading material and enrolling in advanced training sessions (though a Foundation course is still advised).
3. You can resume your regular work.
It’s probable that your company has other obligations for you. Regardless matter how much of your job description is dedicated to your management system or systems, there will always be other demands on your time, such as personnel, financial, and operational management. A consultant may devote their entire attention to the management system, freeing you up to attend to other facets of your day work.
4. There will be a speedier implementation.
Your system will probably be built more quickly by a consultant than by you. Not only will they provide an extra set of hands to assist you, but they also won’t get sidetracked because they’ve done it all before and are aware of all the potential dangers. As a result, you ought to be more prepared than usual for your certification assessment.
5. You don’t have to hire more employees.
You may turn consultants on and off as needed because they are not employees of your company. You could want them to only offer guidance as you design your system, or they could create, install, and certify your system before letting you handle it on your own. On the other hand, you could want them to help you for many years to come by doing management reviews, introducing new ISO management systems, coordinating external audits, conducting internal audits, and communicating with the Certification Body. You are in charge and have the ability to adjust the amount of help needed as needed.
6. They enhance your company.
Naturally, the goal of putting in place an ISO system is not just to establish compliance but also to enhance your company and include continuous development, which is a must for all significant ISO management systems. A consultant’s expertise dealing with dozens, if not hundreds, of organizations in your industry similar to yours is an additional plus. They bring with them all of their expertise on best practices, covering not just the ISO system but also other facets of creating a more prosperous organization.
7. Over time, it’s probably less expensive.
Hiring a consultant typically pays for itself and is less expensive for certain organizations than hiring a full-time employee. Naturally, everything is dependent on your unique situation, such as the size and complexity of your company. However, if you take into account the time you can save on implementation and the additional advantages a new set of eyes might provide, it might be a false economy to believe you can handle it alone.
8. It’s not deceitful!
If you’re concerned that hiring a consultant would be viewed as dishonest, be assured that it isn’t. You won’t receive a worse grade from Certification Bodies auditors if you hire a consultant. In actuality, a consultant is used by at least half of smaller organizations (and the percentage is significantly greater for more specialized systems).
